The Potter Group

Rail Freight

The Potter Group is one of the UK's leading independent rail freight terminal operators providing road, rail and transhipment for conventional wagons, swapbodies, containers and ISO tanks. With extensive receipt, storage and dispatch services, the Group is able to handle every stage from loading to final delivery.

The Group's three rail connected freight distribution centres in the North West, East Anglia and the North are conveniently located close to motorway routes, with links to the major ports and mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel.

Fully equipped with shunting locomotives, intermodal handling equipment, bulk discharge and covered areas for unloading high capacity freight wagons, the centres can take both full train loads and single wagons.

The growth in rail freight reflects increasing awareness of the significant commercial and environmental advantages it offers, helping to reduce road congestion with lower levels of pollution.

The Group's rail freight centres handle products as diverse as textiles, paper, bottled water and building products. Goods can be shipped either in containers or in bulk directly from the port of entry for safe and secure offloading under cover inside the centre. For some clients, goods are transhipped by road elsewhere; and for others, stocks are held in store for order preparation and despatch.

The Potter Group is committed to the future of rail freight and is active at all levels in promoting the benefits of switching goods from road to rail. For further information visit the Rail Freight Group's website www.rfg.org.uk.
