COMAH facility wins outsourced chemical distribution contract
The Potter Group’s top tier COMAH facility in Droitwich has been selected by global speciality chemicals firm Clariant to take over the storage, handling and distribution of its range of chemicals, biocides and personal care intermediates. The decision follows the closure of Clariant’s Leeds facility which included the company’s UK storage and distribution centre.
Droitwich will now receive, store and handle products from Clariant’s factories in Pontypridd, Switzerland and Germany, for onward shipment to clients in both the UK and internationally.
Under the three-year contract the company will store between 3,500 and 4,000 pallets containing a wide range of chemicals in drums, IBCs and bags, including a number of specialist products requiring warm room temperature controlled facilities.
A dedicated team will be responsible for receiving and processing inbound materials using Clariant’s own SAP stock control systems. Products will be placed in store ready for call-off by Clariant’s Swiss office, then picked and packed for dispatch by road, sea and air freight. Potter Group staff have been fully familiarised with Clariant’s systems and products and have been IATA trained to prepare, label and document airfreight chemical consignments.
Group vehicles will deliver larger UK consignments while Clarke Transport, a long-term transport supplier to both companies, will handle smaller UK pallet and parcel deliveries.
Three of its five distribution centres – those in Droitwich, Knowsley and Ripon - all carry top tier COMAH accreditation and can provide export planning, documentation and freight forwarding services for dangerous goods in line with ADR, IATA and IMDG requirements.
