Potter Group enters waste recycling market
Logistics provider Potter Group Logistics’s Northern Centre in Selby has started work on a new contract to handle and process waste paper and board for Selby District Council. Refuse collection company Veolia Environmental Services is delivering around 100 tonnes of waste paper collected from Selby households each week to The Group’s Selby facility for processing.Veolia's vehicles unload the loose waste paper under cover in the warehouse where it is packed into neat Mill bales. Clean, dry and in an easy to handle form, the waste is taken away by road vehicles for recycling and re-use. The company has round the clock, 365-day access to Potter’s site to ensure that collections need never be delayed through lack of empty vehicles.
Aimi Brookes from Selby District Council commented: “Two of Selby District Council’s key priorities for this year are ensuring that we have a clean, green and healthy environment and reducing carbon emissions in the district as part of the fight against climate change. Working in partnership with Potter Group Logistics to handle recyclable materials locally is key in helping us to work towards these priorities, and also gives us the opportunity to support a local business.’
Matthew Lamb, Potter Group’s managing director, explained the new initiative: “Potter Group Logistics is a successful and profitable logistics business and as part of our long term strategy we intend to make the best use of one of our most valuable resources – space. We have 1.7mft² under cover and 250 acres externally, and to make some of this space available for recycling makes both good business sense, and we hope we can also help protect our environment.”
