IDS on board with Potter Group Ely for another five years

International Decorative Surfaces (IDS) has signed a five-year contract with the Potter Group's South East rail-connected centre in Ely to house and handle its regional sales and distribution operations. The new agreement, which includes the provision of a new on-site office suite for IDS staff, follows two previous three-year contract periods set up in 2002, and maintains a close and successful relationship between the Group, IDS and its predecessors, which began back in 1993.

Part of Saint Gobain's Building Distribution Division, IDS is the UK's largest dedicated distributor of decorative surfacing materials including board and panels for worktops, flooring and decorative panel products.

Under the contract, the Ely centre is allocating a minimum of 50,000ft² for mainly board and panel storage, compared with just 10,000ft² when the first deal was signed in 2002. A core team of six Potter Group operatives is handling goods reception, storage, and order picking and preparation.

Materials arriving by rail and road, mainly via the Channel Tunnel, are stored then picked ready for dispatch to IDS's southern regional locations. Some 3,500 tonnes of laminates and boards are shipped out each month on IDS vehicles from an Ely stock of around 5,000 tonnes

IDS's Operations Director Chris Whitlock commented: "We have worked so closely with The Potter Group in Ely for so long that they are almost part of the IDS operation. They understand just what we need and are ready to respond to make sure we keep our delivery commitments. It's reassuring to know that with the new agreement, we can continue to benefit from this relationship for the years ahead."
