COMAH expertise grows new business from Scotts Miracle-Gro®
As a result of more stringent COMAH chemical storage requirements, leading lawn and garden feed manufacturer The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has appointed The Potter Group’s Knowsley distribution centre to handle the bulk storage and initial distribution of specified products covered by changes in storage legislation.Scotts decided in favour of The Potter Group as its new distribution partner because of its extensive long-term experience of chemical storage and distribution of materials that have a potential hazard when stored in bulk, including Potter’s top tier COMAH accreditation. In addition The Group will be adopting Scotts’ own SAP WMS systems implemented without any disruption or changes to the client’s operating procedures.
The project initially involves storing between 1,000 and 1,500 pallets of garden feeds and fertilisers, volumes that reflect the flexibility needed to satisfy the weather-driven demand of Scotts’ gardening business. Products will be delivered by road from plants in north-east England and France for bulk storage. Scotts will call off orders from the Knowsley stock for Potter Group to deliver next day to the client’s other storage facility, where they will join with other normally stored products for final delivery to retail customer outlets.
