Potter Group gives young people's charity a helping hand - and £5,000
The Potter Group has recently made a further contribution to the work of Harrogate-based Henshaws College with a £5,000 donation. The money will go towards the College's Buy-a-Brick campaign aimed at raising the final £1m needed to complete a £6.4m redevelopment project.Henshaws College cares for young people with sight loss and other disabilities, and has been very successful in helping students to acquire valuable life skills and achieve a degree of independence to cope with the outside world. The current building project phase will provide accommodation for 22 students, including two "independence flats" to give some of them the chance to live a more independent life. Work started on the current phase in January 2007 when David Blunkett MP visited the site.
Derrick Potter, founder and executive chairman of The Potter Group, visited the College to present the cheque and gave some valuable hands-on assistance with the work. He commented:"The College is giving some of the most disadvantaged young people in our society the chance to acquire the skills and confidence to lead an active and fulfilling life, and it is an inspiration to anyone who visits to see what the staff are achieving. Both Potter Group staff as individuals and the company have been supporting Henshaws for some years and we are all pleased and proud to be able to lend support to such a worthwhile cause."
The Buy-a-Brick campaign to raise the funds from the community is now underway. Bricks will sell for £5 each and all supporters will be acknowledged in the Harrogate Advertiser and a benefactor's book. Bricks are on sale through a College website www.buyabrickforhenshaws.co.uk and from raffle-type tickets. The fundraising team can be contacted on 01423 814500.
